Decorative Armenian-themed Potholders
Each Armenian-themed potholder is made in Armenia by Vardenis Sewing, a group of five Armenian women living and working in the town of Vardenis. The Vardenis Sewing Project started in 2012, when Peace Corps volunteer Laura Maas recognized the women's talent and connected them with a designer and a market for their products. Sir Timothy Straight, the honorary consul of Norway and Finland in Armenia and founder of the Homeland Development Initiative Foundation (HDIF), helped refine their design. The HDIF aims to initiate, facilitate and nurture sustainable development in Armenian communities and create jobs in the regions of Armenia, particularly for Armenian women, by using traditional techniques and materials.
