This is an aspect of the contemporary Eastern Armenian poetry scene-- almost 3,000 years old- yet new, rural or urban, aesthetic or political, or just in the lyric tradition.
The recent turn of events- Armenia as an independent country- was a historic breakthrough, and the attempt of the "revolutionaries" of the 60's introduced in this anthology was continued by the new generation, their manifestos sometimes being rejected, initially, for both form and content.
But the spirit of the new generation grew, bringing forth quite new standards of poetic expression in Armenian: modern poetry with its roots in the old tradition, but not archaic. - Levon Ananian, Chairman of the Writers' Union of Armenia
