“Hommage” is a collection of piano music by Armenian composers born in the 19th century when western music was introduced to Armenian culture. Among them, Tchouhadjian was the composer who created the first opera in the Middle East; Spendiaryan introduced the orchestra to national music; Manas harmonized and orchestrated the national anthem of the Turkish Republic; Yekmalian studied with Rimsky Korsakov; Ghorghanian set Tolstoy’s text to music;
Mikuli was Chopin's protégé; Elmas played for Liszt. Although evocative of an older age, “Hommage” is vibrant with the pulse of a new world.
