Morgenthau was an astute observer who had good contacts with the leaders of Ottoman Turkey, as well as their allies. His memoirs cover WWI in the Middle East, including the Turco-German alliance, the Allied Gallipoli campaign and the genocide of Armenians.

This critical edition of Morgenthau's work includes a critical introduction by Ara Sarafian with reference to Morgenthau's private papers.
